Insurance and Therapy

I do not work with insurance and managed care organizations,* for two main reasons. One is the matter of confidentiality. Some clients worry about the disclosure of any personal-psychological information, such as a diagnostic code and its description (for example, "F32.1, Major Depressive Disorder, Single Episode, Moderate"). My staying away from the bureaucracies is a way to obviate these worries.

The second reason for this stance is that I believe my work is both effective enough and time-efficient enough that people will find the expense more than justified. The evolution of psychotherapy -- teeming with amazing odysseys of healing and harm, insight and agenda, false and valid theory, and the wisdom and ills of countless patients mixed with the thoughtful efforts of countless practitioners -- has now enabled a unique synthesis of art and science that an experienced clinician can apply to your life difficulties.

I have grown, over the years, an approach that I believe is a distillation of the best natural means of human healing. "Natural" means a number of things: what a good caregiver does to help a child through pain and injury; what makes a person feel seen (often for the first time in his or her life) and respected at the deepest nonjudgmental level; what encourages and enables old, buried, terrifying or denied pain to emerge and be outletted safely. Additionally, I incorporate insights of origins and healing of a "Primal" nature, that are not in the repertoire of most therapies practiced today. This, I will be happy to discuss with you at our first meeting.
